To honor the humble chestnut
On Roast Chestnuts Day Dec 14.
Every Christmas we all sing " Chestnuts roasting on an open fire..."
But have you ever roasted them?
It may surprise you to know, that some people have never even tasted
a chestnut.
The date was selected to coincide with
the beginning of "The Twelve Days of Christmas"
The tradition of roasting chestnuts has been around for a long time.
When they are roasted, the natural sweetness of the nut delights the taste buds.
Have you ever had roasted chestnuts?
It's time...

H--- water chestnuts are in Chinese food, totally different animal! If you've had a can of quality mixed nuts, they're the really big ones!

A: is "somewhat" right...they are different from water chestnuts...
But I've never seen them in canned mixed nuts...
I think you mean THE LARGE ones are Brazil nuts.

Re: It's time...
I do remember eating them at a "Winter Festival" once. I remember they were still quite warm. Not a taste I especially liked, difficult to "peel".

And, yes, I have had...
When I was a kid...our family went with my parents friends (family)
To a State Park in the Fall..
And Ruthie, my Mom's friend, was quite a cook...
Who brought them along..for us to try..
And we did "roast them on an open fire"
They have a unique taste.
