Tough decision

Post by anniebelle » 5 months ago

I'm pondering something and need some advice since I'm just going in circles in my head! A dear friend has had a variety of health issues that has his family members making the difficult decision to place him in a nursing home. I'm really fond of Sam and miss our times together before Covid changed everything.

Sam's kitty, Lulu, needs a new home. I'd considered this possibility last Spring when Sam was repeatedly hospitalized. But then he got better and along came Covid and along came MILO!!! "Milo my love", my "Cat from He**". Sounds easy doesn't it?
Ł
There has been so many times in my life when there was no decision to make. I've had two cats many times, even three at one time. But I was much younger then! Wasn't using a walker. Could go to the store and everything for myself. I'm relying so much on a friend to bring us cat food and litter and everything else I need. My friend just found out she has heart problems!!! Don't know what I'll do when she can't help me.

I have so many things on my plate right now! I have important business and doctors appointments that have been waiting while Covid is still going rampant! Every day costs me more money and lots of stress! Two kitties is twice as much food and litter, and vet bills. Lulu has had cysts or tumors removed from her head twice. I believe an apartment is coming available soon that I have wanted since I first moved here. They are few and far between.

Both kitties have been accustomed to being in charge!!. Don't know if they will get along. I believe Lulu is declawed; Milo might hurt her. How will they feel about sharing the litter pan? How will Milo feel about sharing ME?. He is becoming more affectionate, not so aggressive. Finally!!! I think Milo would enjoy someone to wrestle with, but will Lulu???

Of course, it's a decision that will last for years and years. I'm just afraid of taking on more than I can handle for the long haul!!!

Anniebelle, I've refrained from commenting every time you talk about how rough Milo is. In my head, I would think, "Milo needs another kitty". Only another cat can teach him not to be so rough. They will bite back! I never said anything because I don't know your circumstances and getting another cat isn't easy or practical for everyone. Just think maybe you know the answer. Things are different now than they were when your friend kept getting sick. I think it being an adult cat could be a good thing for Milo. Keep us posted. 💞 Don't do it because you think you have to. Make sure you feel good about it.

Mods, I'm sending Anniebelle links that may help her. I have no way to get her this info except here. Please don't hold it against me!

Anniebelle,
Do an internet search for "Resources for seniors with pets". It will pull up websites that MAY be able to help. You can also specify state or city. It's worth a shot. Pets are good for our souls! If I can look up more, I'd be happy to. Just don't want to get banned for leaving links. 😻

Also, you can try placing order for food, litter, treats at Chewy.com
Not sure if you've tried them but often they are cheaper. If not, it may be easier to just use them so you won't feel bad about your friend doing it for you. Before purchase, see if you can search online for Chewy coupon codes. Worth a shot.

Gemsnob:.... I don’t think mods. Will care it’s not a out side link to another shopping channel or anything bad. Think it’s nice of you to help Anniebelle. 😊

I hope they don't hold it against me. You're right, they aren't links to a retailer. Anyone who loves animals is alright with me. 💜

@Gemsnob , thank you for the web connections. It is too easy to forget about our resources when dealing with so many pressures, some of them complicated by Covid. Like, I was surprised to find that Walmart will not deliver to my zipcode! Sometimes I find hiccups with Chewy's website, then to find the litter I use comes in too large a container for me to handle. A couple months ago i found someone to take me for a doctor appointment, but she couldn't take my phone call because she was hanging out at the casino! Not someone I want to get into a car with!

Yes, I know Milo needs a playmate. But I considered that before I got him when I chose to go with only one kitten, when the shelters wanted to only adopt two together. My baby girl grew up just fine alone. Her only problem was she was afraid of people!
