AMBER RECALL???
FB fan page has discussion about some members receiving emails regarding recall or discount offers for certain amber items (posted necklaces and earrings). Does anyone have more specific details on which specific items were involved?

A RECALL? Why the heck would it be recalled??
The ONLY thing I can find is FDA warnings about babies wearing necklaces and choking on them.
In no way should it be recalled unless perhaps it's fake and filled with a toxic resin or something . . . I am a bit concerned as I DO love amber and have several items.

Amber… that is an item I do not have in my collection. I have thought about it but I fear getting fake plastic junk.

Re: AMBER RECALL???
First of all real Amber will have a faint scent to it. Sort of a pine scent.
Second real Amber also has a slight “give” to it. It will not be hard like a resin.
And lastly if you want to test your amber, mix a solution of 2 cups water and 1/4 cup salt and mix to dissolve.
Real amber will float in salt water. Resin will sink.
Runs off to test her amber pieces!

Great info Greeneyesbluesighs! So instead of floating your boat, we need to float our Amber!

Re: AMBER RECALL???
OMG, Bella and Greeneyes you are KILLING ME!
AMAZING TIP GREENEYES! I thought I had run some generic tests on my amber, but now I'm going to go float it, hahaha!
I HAVE read that often the "crackle" seen inside IS man made by shocking it in cold water, but like turquoise it's often faked.
Got any good tips for testing turquoise? I have read a hot needle to see if it's resin or plastic . .

I heard that to FarmMom, I seen a guy on you tube awhile back testing his turquoise rough. Very interesting video I need to try and find it again.

FarmMom......
I have a tip that works for me and some Antique dealers friends
You take a small needle or pin, then find a place on the stone to lightly scratch away a tad of the top layer, if you see white, gray or any other color OTHER than Turquoise then it's fake
Works every time for us, hope this helps (no heating of the pin either)
