@WTFarmGirl Thank you for the detail information.
I have to mention though that gold and silver items manufactured in Europe for example, as well as those before 1980 or older do not bear trademarks, but just 18k, 14k, 9k for gold and 925 for sterling silver. I had a ring made in France by a local jeweler in the 90s and he send it to the authorized organization for stamping.

Indeed, it's a bit different in each country. The ring I had made in Canada said 925 (no makers mark) but the items done in New York had nothing at all, and I didn't have my own makers mark done yet so mine was not added of course. I will certainly have to bring it up before putting in an order for selling down the road.

But it's always a good topic worth discussing ;)
